3D printing of sample holders for allergy diagnostics
Rapid production of prototypes and small batches for MADx
Customer challenge
Fast, flexible, and precise – these were the requirements MADx had for the production of new cuvette and sample holders. Injection molding would have caused high tooling costs and was not economically viable for the small number of parts needed. In addition, the holders had to feature the company logo.
The answer: Additive manufacturing
We began with feasibility studies for small series production, closely examining the requirements for geometry, function, and design. This led to customized models for 3D printing. Using our Hot Lithography technology and the high-performance material Evolution, we then produced the sample holders on the industrial 3D printer Caligma® – quickly, precisely, and with integrated company logos.
The result
MADx was able to get their prototypes and small series parts in their hands very quickly – without long lead times or expensive tools. The 3D printed parts met the high-quality standards of medical technology and were used directly in the lab. Thanks to the flexibility of Hot Lithography, we were able to continuously adapt and improve the product design. Today, the parts are produced in industrial quantities on our 3D printing platform Cerion®.
