On May 26th, the non-profit Rudolf Sallinger Fonds awarded the S2B (Science To Business) Award to entrepreneurial scientist for the first time. Additionally, interdisciplinary students teams were honored for their entrepreneurial ideas as part of the Future Founders Challenge.
Aim of this initiative is to anchor entrepreneurship even more in the Austrian higher education landscape and to sustainably strengthen the entrepreneurial spirit, especially among young academics. Crowd voting and the opinions of an expert jury were used to identify the winner team in a process lasting several weeks.
Über das S2B-Preisgeld von 20.000 Euro durfte sich das Gewinnerteam “Cubicure” von der Technischen Universität Wien freuen. “Wir entwickeln neuartige Kunststoffe für den Einsatz in High-End 3D-Druckanlagen. Mithilfe dieser Materialien wird es zukünftig möglich sein, herkömmliche industrielle Produktionsmethoden, z.B. Kunststoffspritzguss, durch die einzigartigen Möglichkeiten des 3D-Drucks zu erweitern”, so ao.Univ.Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Jürgen Stampfl vom Institut für Werkstoffwissenschaft und Werkstofftechnologie der TU Wien. Dipl.-Ing. Robert Gmeiner erklärt weiter: “Dadurch können nicht nur Bauteile mit komplexer Geometrie leichter und billiger hergestellt werden, sondern es entstehen auch Produktionsvorteile durch eine allgemein flexiblere, werkzeugfreie und individualisierte Fertigung.” (APA)
